Not Your Average Bean!

Want to say “I Love You” to that special someone in your life but are sick of sending flowers? How ’bout sending a message bean! This potted bean will sproat in about a weeks time and will don a cute little message on a leaf — yes on the leaf. You can choose from the following messages: “Thank you,” “Love,” Good Luck,” or “Happy Birthday” and depending on which message you select, each plant will also sport a cute little symbol too! For $12 I’m definately calling the Message Bean a find!

When is a view a view in Pay-Per-Play?

So, in an effort to get out of beta with this program, here’s some visibility into how our Pay-Per-Play program is going.

Every view is not a view in Pay-Per-Play. For example, we do have a minimum amount of time that has to be spent watching a Videopinion. Yes, it’s less than 100%, but you can’t use the fast forward bar to jump to the end. We also will only count one view per user session. That way if someone is just clicking on your video over and over (now…who would do that…?), you only get paid once. We had someone click on their video 2,000 times in 15 minutes on the first day. Needless to say, 1,999 were not counted for multiple reasons!

Who are the highest paid creators? So far, it’s definitely based on the sheer number of Videopinions you’ve submitted. This isn’t youtube, where only the crazy viral videos get the views. Expo is a product research tool, so if people are researching the products you reviewed, they should find you. Almost 97% of our catalog gets viewed every month, so most of your videos will get seen by a viewer. So, the more Videopinions you put up, the more you’ll get viewed.

Getting on the home page helps. People click on home page stuff. We try to highlight our best stuff and our best contributors there. (See below for some tips .) We have a random selector that rotates among our top rated videos, and the more detailed member profiles. We’re still researching other tips, like which categories are doing well, which products, etc. We’ll get you that info as we crunch through it.

Lolita Lempicka

For anyone who wants a great smelling fragrance, without all that heaviness, and allergy reactive enhancers that some perfumes have, then check out my favorite fragrance and perfume designers Lolita Lempicka.

Lolita Lempicka is an enchanting and alluring fragrance that is smooth and easy on your senses. This sensual fragrance will keep them asking What is that! And not saying What is that awful smell?

Did you see yourself on 20/20?

This past weekend 20/20 did a segment on Consumerism and to the company's amazement our new homepage graphics, improved video player and a couple Videopinions were featured throughout the piece.

We were really excited to see this and are thrilled to be able to share it with you.  We found the clip on Youtube …Enjoy!

Cheese Clubs

I am a cheese fanatic. There are weeks where I probably get 50% of my calories from cheese. My daughter at seven years old can discuss the finer points of Roquefort vs. Blue cheese as a result of my fanaticism.

For others like me, I’m here to tell you about two services that can feed your cravings possibly to the point of satiation. They are iGourmet and Artisanal. They are both fantastic, but a little different. iGourmet has a bit more of a common man approach featuring cheeses from smaller boutique producers but that tend to concentrate in familiar categories like cheddars or manchegos. They’ll also have a bit of fun with liquor or fruit infused cheeses. Artisanal, which spawned out of a cheese focused restaurant that launched in New York not more than 5 years or so ago, is even higher end, often featuring cheeses that are truly unique creations and defy easy descriptions.

For those interested in a very broad experience, I’d suggest a six month subscription to iGourmet then six months with Artisanal. Fortunately, my sister-in-law Debbie, who I love very very much, has treated me to both over the years and now I’ve started to pay it forward.

Want to get on the homepage?

You might have noticed that we’ve made some changes to our site lately…some of the changes have been made to better highlight great Videopinions and active members from our community. Each week (or every few days, still working this out) we will be featuring a member on the homepage. In order to be in the runnings your member page needs to be filled out – that means you need to have uploaded a picture and written sosmething in the “about me” and “interests” areas.

Think about it, the more time your videos spend on the homepage, the more likely that are to get played. You do the math!

Eleni’s Breast Cancer Awareness Cookies

Eleni’s cookies are bar none my favorite sugar cookies. Not only are they the best-designed sugar cookies I’ve ever seen, but they are also pretty darned tasty.

As you may already know, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In support of that, Eleni’s New York has created an entire breast cancer awareness collection (featuring four different cookie tins), and they are donating a respectable 50% of their proceeds from the sale of each tin to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

I’ve sent tins of these cookies many times, and everyone has always raved about them, but this is a particularly good time to buy. Send one of the pink ribbon tins to your favorite survivor, oncologist, or run/walker–or send the plain flower tin to anyone– and know you’re supporting a good cause.

Great cookies, great charity… a cure in our lifetime.

20 videos, moviepinions…so little time, so many vpinions!

Yes, our upfront payment is now $5. You’ll notice, though, that two things happened at that same time:

1) we implemented Pay Per Play beta , which theoretically makes your potential payout unlimited for every videopinion

2) we raised the maximum videos to 20 , so you can still guarantee yourself a chunk of change

We made the change after deciding that we should move to start basing rewards on great, helpful videopinions and their contributors. We’re starting with viewership-based PPP, which we hope we can make permanent and bring out of beta.

You may also notice that we opened up a new category…moviepinions . We are hoping that opening up this category shows that there are going to be more and more ways you can contribute to the consumer discussion about how people spend their money. We opened this out of demand from our community, so we hope you let us subsidize your movie ticket through videopinions!

And now for something completely different…Pay Per Play.

Behind the scenes, we’ve been building an ongoing reward system, and today we’re unveiling the beta trial of our new “pay per play” program. Our entire videopinion catalog, no matter when you submitted, will be eligible for our pay per play rewards. Your video reviews will now earn you a penny every time someone clicks to play your video. That way, as your video is watched by a consumer viewer, you’ll be rewarded. To us at Expo, this helps us get to the heart of what we’re trying to accomplish…getting authentic word of mouth about products out to other consumers in a fun, entertaining and informative way. We can only do it with your help, and now we’re making sure you are recognized for your great productions.

To make sure that your videos get found, we’ll continue to partner with search sites like Google and AOL to get the word out about our library. In addition, we have added a “related videos” tool that will search our huge product library, in real-time, to find the most relevant videos to the one you’re watching. That way, we can keep viewers engaged and clicking by suggesting other helpful videos during their product research.

We hope you enjoy this beta trial, and look forward to your feedback on the program. Have fun!

Cubitec Shelving from DWR

If you are looking for a functional but elegant shelving solution for your home, I would highly recommend Cubitec Shelving from Design Within Reach. Each kit makes up to six cubes and costs $198. You can arrange the cubes in lots of different configurations to fit your space or create something that looks more interesting than a standard bookshelf.

We chose the translucent white color and designed a custom shelving system for a large wall. The Cubitec shelves are really durable and deep. We put lots of books on them in addition to wine bottles, photo albums and DVD cases. The only downside to Cubitec is the assembly time. We ordered 3 kits and it took us close to 2 hours to put the shelves together. However, it was a fun afternoon project and it was worth the time for the end result. Our shelving system looks great and we get lots of compliments on it whenever we have friends over to our apartment!
