Reviewers’ Picks: Shape Magazine - Not Just for Women

Asduncan23 ’s Shape Magazine review has been picked this week to be featured on Expo TV’s Member Blog. He reviews a popular fitness magazine for women and appreciates the great tips offered in fitness, exercise, and eating healthy, despite the magazine’s female approach. Many males believe that women are a mystery and Asduncan23 is no exception. He browses through this magazine to get some ideas of the female mindset, and is curious as to what women think is sexy. According to Asduncan23, a bonus to buying this magazine is the attractive model on the front cover of Shape magazine. So if you would like an inside look on what females enjoy reading, or simply want a good magazine for fitness tips for both females and males pick up the Shape Magazine recommended by Asduncan23.

For All Frequent Fliers: PlaneSheets & Cabin Cuddlers

Flying is never fun. There is the constant stress of missing your flight or having your flight get delayed and then there is the fear of sitting near a really large, annoying person for over four hours. Sounds fun right! These two products can’t fix any of those problems, but they will certainly make your next trip much more comfortable.

PlaneSheets are the perfect thing for anyone worried about who was sitting in their plane seat before them. in both washable and disposable models, PlaneSheets are an affordable way to feel and stay cootie-free during flight.

Cabin Cuddlers make thoses skimpy blankets provided on airlines look like rags. Created by a pilots wife, these soft, sanitary blankets are the perfect addition to any carry on bag. If you are ALWAYS cold during plane rides — The Cabin Cuddler is just for you. With a little pouch for your feet, this blanket can be easily wrapped around your entire body keeping you nice and toasty all flight long.- Jess

410 Calories! (Starbucks Egg Nog Latte)

410 Calories. 20% of a normal adult’s daily calories. All sucked down in one festive holiday-red paper cup. I’m talking about the Grande Egg Nog Latte at Starbucks. It’s true, egg nog is a special treat this time of year. (Unless you buy egg nog in those cans available all year round. And that’s just wrong.) Then Starbucks goes and whips it up with my innocent 10 calorie morning coffee. The result? 410 calories. That’s like eating a Quarter Pounder every morning!

It may go with the whole ‘bulking up for the winter hibernation’ theory, but beware the creamalicious, irresistible Egg Nog Latte. Need a healthy alternative? Try the White Chocolate Frappucino — 610 calories with whip available all year round!!

Embracing the Dialogue

We’d always envisioned Expo as a place where consumers and companies (or marketers or manufacturers or advertisers…or whatever else you’d like to call them) would interact. The idea was to empower consumers to express their undiluted views on products while letting marketers make their pitch right there at the same time with Expo playing a relatively minimal ‘refereeing’ role. We’ve been focused on the consumer expression part and so we’d be the first to admit that we haven’t totally figured out how to integrate companies into the dialogue.

Well, along came a great VideopinionSM review on the Play Hard Flashflight and not long after came a comment submitted by the company, including a promotional code for Expo members to use when buying the product. Now we’ve got a dialogue going! Our instinct is that this is exactly the kind of interaction we’d like to see on the site and so we’re supporting & even promoting it to understand the kind of reaction that people have. Interesting questions certainly get raised as users create VideopinionSM reviews that lead to corporate interest in participating on the website. For example, how do we make sure that creators continue to feel celebrated for creating critical reviews? Can we convince manufacturers that critical reviews are just as important to understand and embrace? We don’t know for sure where it all leads, but as long as the dialogue is authentic, respectful and open, we’re certainly interested in continuing down the path.

Let us know your thoughts.

Small Pay-Per-Play Reporting Bug

We discovered a bug that impacts less than 1% of the videos on our site where our system was not capturing the number of plays for certain videos due to a technical glitch.  We apologize for not catching it sooner and would like to thank member Elgar for bringing this issue to our attention.

We rolled out a patch on Tuesday that fixed the reporting so this will no longer be an issue going forward.  Over the next few days, we will be backfilling the plays data for any videos that were impacted by this bug.  If you had a video that was affected, you'll receive an email from us and should see an update hit your Expo account page soon.

Thanks for your patience as we strive to constantly improve the Pay-Per-Play program.  If you ever notice any other problems on our site, please don't hesitate to contact us

Welcome to the Expo “Life as a Start-up” blog

This thread of the Expo blog is all about start-up life. It’s not so focused on Expo itself as just some commentary on all of the issues one faces as an entrepreneur. We pull it from our experience as entrepreneurs but also from our past in banking, venture capital and other related areas. Take it for what you paid for it, give us feedback about where our experience has given us myopia…and enjoy.

Drugstore.com

I moved a few weeks ago. The first thing I did when I got to my new apartment was fire up the internet and go to Drugstore.com. If you haven’t checked it out, it’s a great site to stock up on a huge range of household, beauty, and personal care items. I always order big quantities of paper towels, Kleenex, and toilet paper so I don’t have to lug unwieldy paper products around Manhattan and always have them handy. A few favorite features:

  • “your list”: This stores all your previous purchases (and calls out any items on sale) so you can easily just check off your regular purchases and add them to your cart.
  • Free shipping of any order of $49 or more! All the time! This also applies to their sister site Beauty.com.
  • 5% rebate: I’m not kidding. You earn “drugstore.com dollars” for a quarter and then you get one month to spend them. It’s like they’re paying you to shop. There’s much more to love (prescriptions! freebies! auto-delivery!) so go get started!

Show me the Money!

I know some of you must be curious about October's payments, so I wanted to give you some more details about how October's payments are a little different from what you've been used to.  When we switched over to Pay-Per-Play we decided that it would make more sense for our contributors to receive the $5 per Videopinion payment + Pay-Per-Play earnings all in one big chunk after the end of the month. This way you don't have to keep track of a bunch of different PayPal payments and you can easily reconcile your payment against your Your Expo Account page. Our tech folks are putting the finishing touches on the payment system that will work behind the scenes, but we hope to get all of your payments out to you this week! If you're curious about all the payment rules and regs (and, frankly, who isn't?), check them out here.

As always, we love (love!) your feedback, so let us know if there's anything on your mind.

-Emily
