TechCrunch coming to New York: TechCrunch Disrupt Conference!

March 1st, 2010

In yet another sign of NYC’s fertile new media ground, TechCrunch is launching the TechCrunch Disrupt conference on May 24-27 here.

“We call it TechCrunch Disrupt because we want to debate what’s really changing in media and technology right now, what’s causing disruption and what we need to do about it to survive and thrive in real time.”

Heather Harde, a friend of EXPO founders Bill and Daphne, is leading the charge, having once claimed being a New Yorker herself. When she was here, she worked for behemoths like Showtime and News Corp., and understands well the collision of media, advertising and technology that happens only in New York.

They’ll be showcasing great startups from around the world at TC Disrupt, with a winner receiving $50,000. But, since that barely covers a advertiser-schmooze-dinner-at-Nobu, the best benefit might be the exposure the event will generate for young companies. A few rules:

“Startup Battlefield” Contest: Startups agree to launch for the first time to the public and press at TechCrunch Disrupt

Demo Area: Any company less than two years old and less than $2 million in financing is welcome to participate in the Startup Alley demo area. Audience choice will vote one Startup Alley company into Round One of the Startup Battlefield each Monday and Tuesday.

Show presentation: A select number of early-stage startups will be invited by TC to present during the morning Media + Technology Program of the conference. Applications to present accepted through March 15

More to come as they unfold their Gotham plans. Tickets are a non-recession-friendly $1495, but there’s a cut-rate startup package that won’t require your to raise a Series A round to fund it. So, put the date aside!
