Opening up to advertiser participation

ExpoTV, along with About.com, is the subject of an article in ClickZ.com today about drawing in advertisers by building on the community members’ enthusiasm for brands and products. A brief excerpt from the article is below:

“We are building out specific areas on our site — they’ll be launching later in the summer — where brands can engage directly with consumers,” said Dave Rubinstein, Expo TV’s VP of brand engagement. CPG and consumer electronics advertisers seem most interested in the new marketing services.

Expo also plans to distribute new products to people who have already expressed an interest in particular brands or synergistic products. The site might connect coffee reviewers with a maker of teeth whitening strips. Expo may also send fans of one product an item from a competitor. A recent survey conducted by the firm found 93 percent of participants would be interested in communicating with competitive brands that expressed interest in their opinions.

The article also talks about the potential for offering our community members new products before they launch - an exciting benefit both for member and brands. To read the complete article, click here.

Why Brands Should Start Communicating with Consumers

Passionate consumers at ExpoTV.com have spoken. Our survey, Brand Engagement: What Consumers Really Think, shows not only the desire consumers have to engage with brands, but also the benefits brands may receive from communicating with consumers.

A main takeaway from our survey is that consumers want to talk to brands – and lots of them. But even more interesting is that 55% of survey respondents would prefer to have ongoing communication with brands, as opposed to one time. Additionally, we found that the department consumers most wanted to offer feedback to was Product Design, at 49%. Not only do consumers want to talk to brands, they also want to have input on product design.

If brands listen to consumers, they may end up with more consumer loyalty. Eighty-nine percent of survey respondents said that they would feel more loyal or significantly more loyal to a brand they liked who invited them to participate in a feedback group. And, 63% of respondents would even feel loyal to a brand they were unfamiliar with that reached out to hear their opinion.

Brand advocacy can be a very powerful thing. Sixty-one percent of survey respondents said that they told at least 10 people about the last brand they liked. Eighty-one percent of respondents will tell at least five people.

We think our survey results are eye-opening in terms of how engaging with consumers can help increase brand loyalty and advocacy. When brands reach out to and listen to consumers, they may reap many benefits. For even more detailed information, contact David Rubinstein, dr@expotv.com.

User Generated Video and Word of Mouth

ExpoTV’s CEO, Daphne Kwon, participated in an interactive podcast for South By Southwest (SXSW.com) about what user generated video means to word of mouth advertising. Here’s a brief excerpt from the written blurb about the presentation:

User generated video and video sharing Web sites have given consumers a way to get the word out on what they believe, giving their honest opinions without any editing or bias from a manufacturer.

ExpoTV - a great website for gadget freaks

Makeuseof.com has published their list of “The Best Websites for Gadget Freaks” - and ExpoTV made the list. They also linked to their earlier, recent article about us in yesterday’s post. Here’s what they had to say about us in the original article:

You can find almost anything here, starting from car reviews to snazzy Dell laptops, giant LCD TVs and even iPhone. So if you ever want to see the product on the video and listen to what average consumers are saying about the product you want to buy then ExpoTV seems to be the right right place.

We appreciate the recognition! If you’d like to take a look at video reviews of gadgets made by real consumers on ExpoTV, this page is a good starting point.

ExpoTV in Crain’s

Crain’s New York Business published a great article about ExpoTV last week. The article talks about our unique combination of user-generated content and product information for consumers.

Excerpt from the article:
Product reviews pepper the Web, but ExpoTV’s are different. Generated by users, they are intimate and therefore more powerful, says founder Daphne Kwon. The 260,000 video-based consumer reviews on the site are attracting serious buyers. Site visitors who click through to the linked shopping engine purchase products about 20% of the time.

Will Richmond, president of consulting firm Broadband Directions is quoted as saying “You’ll randomly find other product-related video, but…ExpoTV is a more valuable resource.” To read the full article, click here.
